Education:
Basic education: High School in Rehovot, Israel.
1964: B.Sc. in physics from the Hebrew University, Jerusalem, Israel.
1976: Ph.D. in experimental physics at the Weizmann Institute of Science, Rehovot, Israel.

Career History:

1967 onwards: employed by the Israel Atomic Energy Commission (IAEC) as a research associate in physics, and later as a senior scientist, at the Nuclear research Centre - Negev (NRCN).
1970s: Lecturer in Experimental Physics at the Physics Department, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Beer-Sheva. On sabbatical leave from the NRCN was a visiting professor at The American University, Washington DC, US and a few other scientific institutes around the world.
1984: Group Leader in experimental solid state physics and nuclear NDE methods at the NRCN. Major research interests are the investigation of the crystallographic and magnetic structures of materials and the relation of crystal structure vs. properties, mainly magnetic properties. In the nuclear NDE, field his main interests are in safeguards techniques. In the past few years Dr. Melamud has developed an interest in safeguards and international treaties concerning nuclear disarmament, especially in their verification regime.
1998 onwards: Employed at the IAEC HQ as a special assistant to the DG for the implementation of the CTBT. As part of this assignment is involved in the CTBT PrepCom and its working groups discussions in Vienna as a member of the Israeli delegation.

Publications:
Co-author of more then a hundred publications in scientific journals, and two patents in NDT of steel cables by magnetic methods.
