| Born: 16 February 1951, Melbourne, Australia. Education: Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree in Political Science, University of Melbourne. Masters degree in International Relations, Australian National University. Canberra Doctorate in International Relations from the Australian National University. Career History: 1974-1984: Australian diplomat, with postings in Tokyo, Mexico City and Geneva 1980-1984: Member of the Australian delegation to the Conference on Disarmament, the First Committee of the UN General Assembly and the UN Disarmament Commission. 1986-1987: Visiting Disarmament Fellow, Peace Research Centre, Australian National University, Canberra. 1987-1992: Senior Research Fellow (later Fellow), Peace Research Centre, Australian National University, Canberra. 1992-1994: Acting Head, Peace Research Centre, Australian National University, Canberra. 1993-1997: Project Leader, Peacekeeping and Regional Security, Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), Sweden. 1998- Executive Director, VERTIC, London. Publications: Has published widely in the fields of arms control, disarmament, peacekeeping and Asia/Pacific regional security. Books include: Nuclear Dynamite: The Peaceful Nuclear Explosions Fiasco, Pergamon Brassey's Australia, Sydney, 1990.
