Served in the Japanese Embassies in Washington, DC, Tel Aviv and Manila and the Japanese Missions in Geneva and to the UN in New York.

Fellow at the Center for International Affairs, Harvard University.
Consul-General in Boston.
Private Secretary to Foreign Minister Kiichi Miyazawa, Director of Policy Planning and a sous-Sherpa for the G7 Summits.
Director-General for Arms Control and Disarmament and Science Affairs 1997-1999.
